The Au Sable River Association (ASRA) is a non-profit, membership-based organization, created in August of 1998 through a grant from the Lake Champlain Basin Program.  The association was originally created to implement recommendations found in the Au Sable River Study of 1991.

Its mission is to protect and enhance the natural and cultural resources of the Au Sable River watershed. This cooperative organization brings together landowners, town governments, other non-profit organizations, and State and Federal Agencies to accomplish its mission.

Most funding for projects comes from grants with additional contributions for projects and operational overhead coming from towns within the watershed, fundraising, and dues from the ASRA’s 150+ membership base.

There is an executive director who manages all aspects of the organization. In addition, a board of directors with representatives from each town within the watershed meets monthly to help guide the director and to vote on activities and other association concerns.

Past projects have included water quality monitoring projects, stream bank stabilization projects, invasive species inventories, a gap analysis of storm water plans within the watershed, and educational programs. Current projects include a creel survey, a river survey, a wetlands inventory, and creating a watershed management plan for the Au Sable River.  More information about our Watershed Management Plan and information on how you can help can be found at the WMP page.  For more details about our projects visit our projects page.
