Mirror Lake is the jewel of the Village of Lake Placid and serves as a hub for many recreational activities in the village. For the past three years, AsRA, in partnership with the Adirondack Watershed Institute (AWI), has been studying the water quality of Mirror Lake. This work has revealed that road salt is inhibiting the turnover, a critical physical process for maintaining the health of the lake. Current levels of salt are warning signs for decreasing water quality, lake health, and viability of native fish and other aquatic residents.
Helping the lake, and making sure it is healthy for generations to come, requires the informed participation of residents, business owners, local officials, and everyone who cares for Mirror Lake. Our goal for this event is to share our most current knowledge about threats to Mirror Lake and AsRA's plan to identify effective and sustainable solutions to address this problem.
