Poke-O-Moonshine

Description: Poke-O-Moonshine is one of two mountains within the Ausable River watershed that have a fire tower on the summit, making this an historically important summit. The top presents views of Whiteface Mountain to the west, the High Peaks to the south, and Lake Champlain and the Green Mountains to the east. In addition to the views, on weekends during the summer, the top of the fire tower is open and staffed with an interpreter to give natural and historical information about the mountain.

There are two trails up to the summit, the Ranger's trail and the Observer's Trail. We recommend the latter as it is a gentler, more enjoyable climb. The Ranger's trail is currently being worked on to address a number of issues, but should be another great way to get up to the top once the work is completed.
